About The Repair Project

Connecting science,
standards and clinical practice.

The Repair Project is an international initiative providing independent, evidence-based information about regenerative medicine. We help patients, families and professionals understand treatments, evaluate scientific claims and interpret standards and accreditations, so they can make better-informed decisions.

Why The Repair Project Exists

Clear, independent information
in a complex and fast-moving field.

Regenerative medicine offers real potential, but it can be difficult to understand. Treatments, technologies and claims vary widely, and the evidence, regulation and standards are not always clear.

The Repair Project exists to provide reliable, unbiased information that helps people navigate this complexity. We explain what is known, what remains unproven and what different accreditations and regulatory approvals actually mean, so people can make informed decisions about their healthcare.

Our vision and mission

Our Vision

A world where people considering regenerative medicine treatments can access clear, trustworthy information and understand the evidence, risks and standards behind the choices available to them.

Our Mission

To make regenerative medicine easier to understand by providing independent, evidence-based information about treatments, scientific claims, standards and accreditation, helping people make informed decisions.

What We Do

Understanding regenerative medicine.

We provide independent, evidence-based information to help patients, families and professionals make informed decisions.

Understanding
treatments

Explaining what treatments involve, how they are intended to work, and what is currently known about their potential benefits, risks and limitations.

Understanding
scientific evidence

Helping people distinguish established treatments, promising research and claims that have not been adequately demonstrated.

Understanding
standards and accreditation

Explaining what laboratory accreditation, clinical certification, regulatory approvals and quality seals actually assess, and what they do not guarantee.

Supporting
informed decisions

Providing clear, unbiased information so people can understand the potential benefits and uncertainties, and ask the right questions before considering treatment.

Our Leadership

The people behind The Repair Project.

The Repair Project is led by a founder and two co-chief executive officers, combining scientific expertise, organisational experience and international perspective.

Dr Shara Cohen, Founder of The Repair Project
Founder

Dr Shara Cohen

Dr Shara Cohen was a biomedical scientist and is an entrepreneur and scientific educator with a background in stem cell transplantation, immunology and cellular therapies.

During the emergence of cord blood transplantation as a clinical alternative to adult stem cell transplantation, she led pioneering research investigating the biological mechanisms that made cord blood a unique and effective source of stem cells.

Her work included collaborations with Professor Pablo Rubinstein and Professor Eliane Gluckman, helping establish cord blood transplantation as a viable clinical therapy.

Dr Cohen has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, scientific reviews and educational resources. Although her career subsequently moved into scientific publishing, healthcare communication and organisational leadership, she remains committed to advancing public understanding of regenerative medicine and supporting the translation of scientific knowledge into real-world patient benefit.

Co-Chief Executive Officer

Weronika Carter

Weronika (Ronnie) Carter is a senior executive specialising in innovation, AI and data governance and the delivery of complex, publicly accountable programmes.

Her career spans senior executive roles in business representation, innovation and data protection across the South West of England. This includes leading a statutory, government-funded skills strategy that shapes education and training for a regional economy of over a million people. She is also a Non-Executive Director of Volt Entrepreneurs, which helps young people build confidence and practical skills through entrepreneurship.

Her experience also includes special educational needs practice and educational leadership, community organising, youth-focused digital education and the mobilisation of national employment programmes. In each of these roles she has built governance, quality assurance and data protection practice in settings where the people served are often vulnerable and their decisions carry real consequences.

As Co-Chief Executive Officer, Weronika works alongside Professor Kalodimou to lead the organisation’s operations, governance and partnerships. She brings expertise in AI and data governance, quality standards, digital innovation and stakeholder collaboration. Her focus is making sure The Repair Project’s education, provider directory and patient guidance meet high standards of transparency, integrity and accountability, so that patients can make informed and confident decisions about regenerative medicine.

In 2026 she was named a finalist for South West Business Person of the Year at The Regional Business Awards.
